Tailored for older adults in independent and assisted living, nursing, and memory care settings, since 2019, Syd Sklar has helped seniors reengage with their past while feeling joy and calm in the present. Specializing in Americana, folk, and rock-and-roll oldies, Syd will lead your seniors through musical memories as they sing along, tap a toe, shake a maraca, or simply sit back and listen.
As a Recreation Therapist, Syd can work with activity and life enrichment directors to engage with large groups of residents while addressing their individual needs. He enjoys using techniques to promote engaged listening and meaningful reflection. Focused questions are used to awaken the memories of the residents, and musical engagements can be customized to the needs of the clients.
60-minute sessions are designed to help residents access, experience, and express a range of emotions. Syd helps individuals experiencing cognitive decline connect with music and other people, while preserving sense of self.
