About Syd

Performing music and engineering sound has become Syd’s mid-life adventure and passion! In addition to his solo ventures in therapeutic music, he leads Uncle Leo Band, a classic rock cover band performing in the Chicagoland area; and he played bass guitar in the former Cosmic Pranksters, a Grateful Dead tribute band. After a few years of mixing his own bands, his interest in acoustics evolved into into his current professional ventures in sound engineering.

In his full-time career, Syd is a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) and serves as a Professor of Recreation Therapy at University of St. Francis, Joliet, IL, where he’s taught since 2005.

He earned a BA in English-Communications from Albright College (1993), a MS in Recreation Administration from  Aurora University (1997), and a PhD in Health and Human Performance from the University of Florida (2005).

When he’s not teaching, mixing, or strumming, he can often been found getting lost in the woods.
